The first phase of the government’s exercise to free the encroachment of Doon started from today. The gargantuan task started at seven in the morning at six sectors simultaneously. A large number of police forces were deployed in view of the protest of traders. Nine magistrates were deployed on the orders of DM SA Murugation in all six sectors. On Wednesday, the administration had also given a caveat to the people who had encroached.
There is encroachment everywhere from the six-km-long ISBT to Clock Tower. Traders have extended shops to the road. At the same time, the handcuffs and flags have encroached on the road. Cabinet Minister Madan Kaushik has taken over the command to facilitate traffic on this road. Government was turning a blind eye towards the encroachment. This led to questions about the intentions of the Urban Development Minister and the administration. In response to this Minister Kaushik held a meeting with other departments including the District Magistrate on Tuesday night and declared the anti encroachment drive to be true. Also, he asked to run an immediate campaign. Eventually the administration started anti encroachment drive from Thursday morning.
