The State Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj has categorically said that he would lay emphasis on how to promote tourism in the state. For this he would promote religious, adventure and medical tourism as well. He would try to develop animated destination in Dwarhaat.
He said that it is believed that Dwarika was to be established in Dwarhaat but could not be because of the absence of two rivers so they shifted the location to Gujarat. Since then the place is known as Dwaarhaat. Even in Uttarkahand there are huge deposition of snow and greenery like Dayara Bugyal, Aali and Auli. There we can develop as world class skiing resorts. For this government will procure the skiing kit so that local and poor can afford it. He said that several countries like France and Germany are earning huge chunk of revenue out of it. “In Uttarkahand we have abundance of snow so only we will have to channelise it. I will try to develop Mahabharat circuit in Uttarakhand. During Maharabhara era, to kill the Pandava a Lakshagrah was created at Lakhamandal. We would build a dummy Lakshagrah so that when we take pilgrims to that area then they would get that feeling and it would be adventure for them as well.”
As there are Neelkanth, Kartik Swami shrines, he would try to connect these with a furnacular, which is similar to ropeway but it would have two way connections i.e. one from top and second from beneath so that in case any accident happens then it would stop but would not fall. With this introduction we can promote safe tourism because currently ropeway is safer but if if breaks then there is no second rung safety, he said.
As is known, the Dehradun aiport is being developed on the pattern of an international airport. It would have direct connect with Nepal as well. If it happens then foreigners who visit Uttarakhand via Delhi would directly reach Dehradun and can go futher to their destination smoothly. Sharing his vivid memory about Prince Charles visit to Dehradun, Maharaj said that when he met him then he had expressed his desire to reach Derhadun directly. “If we manage to develop it then we can facilitate entire north Indian states because if we would improve our connectivity then they would come quite often and can return without facing technical hitches during journey. If we manage to start Boeing aircraft flights from Dehradun then it can transport more number of passengers so definitely its price would go down and number of users would increase,” he said.
Talking about scuba diving in Mauritius, where people go inside the sea in glass boat and they click photographs during their journey, he said there is similar structure here because due to Tehri dam entire city submerged under the dam and by introducing submarine in Tehri lake one can provide such a service here. During submarine journey the tourists can be shown aspects of the old Tehri city submerged in the waters of the dam reservoir. In order to rope in more and more people in tourism, he would introduce village tourism, under which there would be renovation of the old houses on the pattern of star rating hotel. For this the state would do rating of the village so that tourists can enjoy village life naturally. By giving star rating the state would save tourist from getting cheated by the owner. For this we would also provide small kitchen so that they can prepare tea and remaining other service like food etc they can get within village. With this other people would also get source of income and would develop two way channel. At last, this would be able to check migration from remote areas because they are living for better prospect, said Maharaj.
