Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh reviewed the progress of the Rishikesh-Karanprayag Railway line project. He instructed that work should be expedited. Through video conferencing, he reviewed the progress of the project with the concerned District Magistrates at secretariat on Monday. He asked them to cooperate with the works of the Railway Development Corporation as per the rules.
Secretary Transport Shailesh Bagoli Informed that the work on the 125.20 km long Rishikesh-Karanprayag to be constructed at a cost of Rs.16216 crore has started. The work on Virbhadra-New Rishikesh railway line, three bridges and approach Road has been under progress. The work on tunnel construction will start in March.
In this, 12 railway stations, 105.47 km long 17 tunnels, 98.54 km long escape tunnels and a total of 218 km long tunnels will be constructed. A total of 16 important bridges of 2835 meters will be built. He informed that by 2019-20 Virbhadra-New Rishikesh line, by 2023-24 New Rishikesh-Devprayag line and by 2024-25 Devprayag-Karanprayag railway line will start.
Principal Secretary Law Alok Verma, Secretary Revenue Vinod Raturi, Secretary Forest Meenakshi Sundram, Project Director Railway Development Corporation Himanshu Badooni were present in the meeting.
