Newly elected Rajya sabha member (technically) Uttarakhand BJP candidate Anil Baluni has appealed his supporters not to put banner as part of celebration.
As we know that Baluni had filed his nomination on the last day of nomination and as per the poll schedule last day of withdrawal of nomination is March 15 so election commission will declare him as member of Rajya sabha on March 15 only.
Baluni’s nomination papers were signed by 28 MLAs who had acted as proposers for his nomination. He was accompanied by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, Cabinet minister Madan Kaushik, state BJP President Ajay Bhatt while filing nomination papers before the Returning Officer Madan Singh Kunjwal and Assistant Returning officer Neeraj Gaur at the Vidhan Sabha.
Giving his reaction on party decision to field him for lone seat of Rajya Sabha, Baluni said “Like Prime Minister Narendra Modi I believe in doing work rather than speaking and I will let my work to speak for itself. But, one thing is certain that I am eager to contribute for my state in whatever way I can and according to the wishes of my party.”
Accepting his meagre strength Congress did not field any candidate. March 12 was the last day for filing of the nomination papers, leaving the field clear for Baluni to be elected unopposed.
Significantly, in a repetition of trend of sorts being witnessed in the BJP state politics, where leaders hailing from Pauri seem to be having an upper hand, Baluni too hails from Pauri district. He was born in Kot village in Pauri district.
Besides, Baluni, Chief Minister Rawat, his Cabinet colleagues Harak Singh Rawat, Satpal Maharaj and Dhan Singh Rawat are also from Pauri.
Though a member of RSS and BJP, Baluni forayed into electoral politics began in 2002. He had then tried his luck for the Assembly election from Kotdwar seat but failed to win the seat. As BJP came into power on 2007 then chief minister
But the electoral defeat did not deter him from actively working for the party. After the BJP came to power in 2007-12 then former Chief Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank appointed him as vice chairman of a state-level committee on Forest and Environment.
He become blue eyed person of both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah, when he worked actively for the party for several years in Gujarat. Before this he had served Gujarat as OSD to Governor too.
