During the construction of the Tanakpur-Jauljivi road, the road contractor died on the spot near Thuligarh of Tanakpur. Pokeland operator saved his life by jumping out of the machine. In the incident, he also suffered minor injuries. By late evening the rescue teams were involved in recovering the body of the contractor. The Pokeland machine was buried in a pile of rubble.
On the part of Project Implementation Unit (PIU), these ambitious Tanakpur-Jauljeevi road construction works are going on. In the first phase, this road is to be constructed from Thuligad to Rupaliagad of Tanakpur. The road contract is tied to RGB Company. RGB has divided the contract for road construction to different contractors. Contract for constructing one km to 29 km road was given to 55 year old contractor Parmanand Joshi from Pithoragarh. According to the police, around four o’clock on Monday evening, operator Lakshman Chandra Kharna (Nainital) was making the road cutting the hill from the middle of the bridge. In the meanwhile, a large part of the mountain collapsed suddenly. Earlier, the operator jumped from JCB while standing contractor Parmanand Joshi got buried in the debris.
When the information was received, the team of CO RS Rawaila, Tehsildar Poonam Pant, Kotwal Arun Verma, Loni’s AE Anupam Roy, BS Pokhariya and Department of Fire Department reached the spot. The teams started an effort to remove the contractor buried in a pile of rubble with the help of a JCB. In addition, the injured operator was taken to the nearby health camp for primary treatment.
