DAINIK NATION BUREAU
Governor Dr KK Paul said today that children must be taught about their fundamental duties (as per the Constitution) at the school level itself. Teachers have this responsibility.
Children must also be made to realise that social interaction (face to face) was more important than the virtual world of mobile phones and internet. The Governor was speaking at a programme organized for the platinum jubilee of Shri Bharat Mandir Inter College, Rishikesh.
He announced that he would be giving Rs. One lakh for the library of the college. He congratulated the teachers and students on the momentous occasion and said that to make the children ideal citizens, they should know how to fulfill their fundamental duties as given in Article 51 (A) of our constitution.
IQ of children was mostly talked about whereas it was the EQ (Emotional Quotient) which was more important. For developing their personalities, children would have to be brought out of the virtual world and carry out face to face social interaction. They should be taught moral and cultural values.
Knowledge was the foundation for culture and civilization. Education did not merely mean literacy. Just bookish knowledge makes children feeling-less and thus there was a need to adopt, along with scientific teaching, the Indian value-based system of education. This system has morals, spirituality, social awareness and love for the country. It can lay the foundation for a child’s character strongly.
The Governor said that though we cannot deny the importance of IT in today’s world, yet we must know that all information on the internet is not authentic and correct .We can get information from the internet but not wisdom and knowledge.
The responsibility of teachers as mentors becomes more important in this context as they can inspire the students to read good books and develop their characters and personalities.
The Governor said that a platinum jubilee was a very significant occasion for any institution .This inter college was set up in 1943 for providing a value-based education according to Indian culture to youngsters. The institution has been successful in its objective. Lakhs of students have passed out of its portals and serving at good posts in the country and abroad.
On the occasion, the Governor honoured the ex-students of the institution who are serving on important posts. other dignitaries present on the occasion were MP Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Cabinet minister Madan Kaushik, VC of SRHU Dr Vijay Dhasmana, the Principal of Bharat Mandir Inter College and several eminent persons.
