DNB/Dehradun: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s deep connection with Devbhoomi Uttarakhand has been evident throughout the 10-year journey of his popular radio program, “Mann Ki Baat,” which is set to mark its 10th anniversary on October 3, 2024. Uttarakhand has frequently been featured in Mann Ki Baat, with the PM praising its people for their commendable contributions to cleanliness, environmental protection, and water conservation, making the state a role model for the nation.
Dhanyavad Prakriti Abhiyan: A Lesson for the Nation
In the 114th edition of Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi lauded the villagers of Jhala, a small border village in Uttarkashi district, for their unique initiative called Dhanyavad Prakriti Abhiyan (Thank You Nature). As part of this campaign, the villagers dedicate two to three hours daily to clean their village and dispose of waste responsibly. Impressed by their commitment, the Prime Minister suggested that such campaigns should be replicated across every village in the country, recognizing the potential for widespread positive environmental impact.
Jakholi Women Set an Example in Water Conservation
The PM has also highlighted the remarkable efforts of the women in Luthiag village, located in the Jakholi block of Rudraprayag district. Through their efforts, they revived dried-up water sources by constructing small lakes, known as Chaal-Khal, which helped store rainwater. This not only addressed the drinking water shortage but also provided water for irrigation. Prime Minister Modi praised this initiative as exemplary, noting that it has significantly improved the local water supply and agriculture, sparing the villagers from walking miles to fetch water.
Frontline Worker Heroics During COVID-19
In another touching instance, the Prime Minister recognized the efforts of ANM worker Poonam Nautiyal from Bageshwar. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Poonam walked 5-7 kilometers daily in the challenging hilly terrain to ensure that vaccines reached every household. Her dedication and courage in convincing vaccine-hesitant individuals were highlighted by the Prime Minister, who personally commended her work during a conversation in Mann Ki Baat.
Grassroots Cleanliness Campaigns and Language Preservation
The Prime Minister also acknowledged local heroes like Surendra Prasad Bagwadi from Guptkashi, who has been actively involved in cleanliness drives inspired by the district magistrate’s efforts. Similarly, Modi lauded the Ran Samaj in Dharchula for their work in preserving local dialects, calling it an initiative that serves as an inspiration to the world in safeguarding linguistic heritage.
Environmental Warriors in Uttarakhand
Several Uttarakhand residents have made remarkable contributions toward environmental preservation. Manoj Bainjwal from Rudraprayag initiated a campaign to free holy places and schools from plastic waste, while also raising awareness among students. Similarly, retired teacher Sachidanand Bharti from Pauri district has been recognized for his tireless efforts in water conservation. By creating over 30,000 Chaal-Khal since 1989 and planting Oak and Rhododendron trees, Bharti revived a drain that had been dry for over 10 years.
Unique Library on Horseback for Children
In the Nainital district, a group of young individuals initiated a unique Horse Library to deliver books to children in remote areas, ensuring access to education. The Prime Minister praised this initiative, which is making a significant difference in the lives of children across 12 villages.
The 10-year journey of Mann Ki Baat has showcased Uttarakhand as a beacon of hope and inspiration for the country. From women-led water conservation efforts to grassroots cleanliness campaigns, Uttarakhand continues to lead by example. As Prime Minister Modi celebrates a decade of his impactful radio program, it is clear that Uttarakhand holds a special place in his heart, often serving as a source of inspiration for the entire nation.
