A team of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) led by its’ team leader Jacob. J.Simonsen had a courtesy meeting with Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat at Chief Minister’s residence on Wednesday.
They discussed the issues of integrated development of programmes being run in the priority areas like health, peyjal and nutritious food at the state level. The team also has a programme to interact with the Chief secretary and other senior officers of the state government.
Welcoming the members of the UNDP, Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat said that there is need for more focus in the fields of health, education, technical education and environment in the state. He also expected an effective initiative to take out the public welfare programmes to the people in a better way. He said that effective initiative have been taken to revive two rivers namely Rispana and Kosi through intensive tree plantation drives in the state. There is another initiative to plant trees on large scale in the districts. To provide drinking water to Dehradun city through gravity, Song, Maldung and Suryadhar lakes are being developed. Attention is being paid to rain water harvesting for water storage.
Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that youth in the state are being made aware through “My Social Responsibility” programmes. “ It is our endeavor that the technocrats and professionals fix their role in the development of the villages,” he said.
The importance of social works around the world has increased and there is need for developing entrepreneurship and professionalism amongst children. The youth have to come out of the mentality of getting jobs and work towards entrepreneurship.
Our youth technocrat and professionals can play an important role in making 670 Nyay Panchayats of state a centre of economic activity. New Technocrats and professionals should study our village traditional economics, daily production activities and rural life and work on measures to improve the lives of villagers through modern techniques and skills. On the lines of the ‘13 Districts 13 New Tourist Destinations’ initiative of developing the 95 development blocks of the state by 95 institutes and 95 industrial estates is being done through a comprehensive plan. He said that our 25 development blocks are on the international border. We have to pay special attention to the development and connectivity of border areas.
The members of the team informed that the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a Global Development Programme of United Nations. It works to reduce poverty, develop infrastructure and promote democratic governance. Purpose of UNDP is connecting the people with knowledge, experience and resources to help make a better life. They also spoke about the documentation of programmes related to the overall development being run by the state government.
