Governor Dr KK Paul has stressed the need to link astrology to modern science. He said that research is needed to give a scientific base to astrology while addressing the inaugural session of the Jyotish Mahakumbh at Graphic Era sponsored by Amar Ujala.
Dr Paul said that it was Hanuman Jayanti today, an auspicious occasion to begin the Mahakumbh. Indian culture was the only culture and civilization that had been flowing unhampered. From the Vedic times, astrology had been an integral part of our civilization. Ujjain was a big centre of astrology. Before teaching students the Vedas, students were taught six Vedangas Of these, one Vedanga was Jyotish. The word “Jyotish” was related to the “jyoti” of the eyes. Thus Jyotish can see the future as well as the past.
Jyotish has been explained in the Vishnu Purana. Science has now made a lot of progress and efforts must be made to update Jyotish according to the changes in science. For this, research is needed.
He said that expert astrologers had made predictions that had turned out to be correct. Scientific basis would help in making correct predictions. KN Rao was conferred the honour of Jyotish Pitamah on the occasion, The Governor said that Rao was a great scholar who had given the concept of Desh-Kaal-Paatra.
