Army Day is celebrated on 15 January every year in recognition of Field Marshal KM Cariappa’s taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander, in 1948. On the occasion of Army Day, in a bid to reach out and energise the civil society, deepen a sense of patriotism and motivate the youth, Indian Army is celebrating the Army Day in a befitting manner. A series of activities based on the theme ‘Know Your Forces’ have been planned across the country.
In the same spirit, Central Command is organising events/activities in its Area of Responsibility from 11 January 2018 to 22 January 2018 which will include display of military equipment, mini marathons and band concerts/display.
The celebrations will be held at 26 cities across six states. These are Rishikesh, Almora, Chaubatia, Dharchula, Pithoragarh, Roorkee, Joshimath, Dehradun, Raiwala, and Haldwani in Uttarakhand. Kanpur, Faizabad, Varanasi, Lucknow, Agra, Meerut, Allahabad, Bareilly and Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh. In Bihar, celebrations will be held at Patna and Danapur, Jabalpur and Mhow in Madhya Pradesh, Ranchi and Ramgarh in the state of Jharkhand and Gopalpur in Odisha
