Taking cognizance on the death of Transporter Prakash Pande, who had consumed poison before entering into the venue of janta darbar led by cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal, political parties, including the Congress, Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist) and others, staged protest and burnt the effigy of State Government on Wednesday. In Haldwani, the transporters’ union and local Vyapar Mandal also staged a demonstration and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister.
In Dehradun, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh led party members in a protest march which also saw them burning the effigies of the Central and the State Governments. Congress members held similar demonstrations in different parts of the State against the governments at the centre and state.
In his address at the Congress Bhawan, the UK PCC president alleged that the BJP government at the centre and state had become insensitive. He opined that demonetisation and the Goods and Services Tax (GST) were responsible for Pande’s death. He said that millions of people across the nation had been affected badly by GST and demonetisation.
This is height of insensitivity in the State Government, when the Congress is raising the issues related to Pande’s death, the BJP led state government’s head and party leaders are terming this politics. If raising voice against harassment and exploitation of the public is politics according to the BJP and its State Government, the Congress will continue this type of politics. He appealed the party members to continue opposing the “anti-public” policies of the both union and state governments.
