On the occasion of birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri Uttarakhand Governor Dr KK Paul paid tribute to them.
In his message Dr Paul said that Mahatma Gandhi had, through his message of truth and non-violence, become a source of inspiration for the entire world. The freedom movement, under his leadership, was not just a political struggle but also a social, cultural and emotional one. It awakened an intellectual and ideological awareness among people. Thus, freedom from the British also brought us freedom from many social evils.
Former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri inspired us with his simplicity, honesty and patriotism. In 1965, his slogan of Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan gave enthusiasm and energy to the entire nation during difficult conditions.
While Gandhiji believed that cleanliness was equal to godliness. We are now engaged in a mahayagya of swachhata. We must all contribute towards this. That would be our true tribute to the two great leaders.
