In a bid to enhance the management of the Chardham Yatra Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has directed the development of a comprehensive online registration system. Its objective is to ensure a smooth, systematic, and successful pilgrimage experience for devotees.
During a visit to the Yatra Registration Office and Transit Camp in Rishikesh on Tuesday, Chief Secretary Raturi emphasized the critical role of technology in achieving efficient Yatra management. She instructed officials to collaborate with a reputed IT consultancy company to create a permanent, foolproof online registration system. This system will be designed with input from all stakeholders, including hoteliers, tour operators, and administrative officials.
Recognizing the importance of field officers, CS Raturi sought suggestions from junior officers on the ground to develop effective Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Yatra management. She commended the efforts of the field officers, noting that their efficient management has allowed the Chardham Yatra to proceed smoothly despite initial challenges.
Currently, approximately 3,000 devotees are stationed at holding points in Rishikesh and Haridwar and are being dispatched to the Dhams. The return of devotees from the Dhams is also being managed successfully. In response to the growing number of pilgrims, CS Raturi has resumed online registration from Haridwar and directed District Magistrates to identify and develop new holding and parking places, with funds to be released soon.
CS Raturi has also instructed the strict adherence to the trip card system and the assessment of vehicle carrying capacity on the Yatra route. Cooperation with national tour operators and coordination with district administrations in other states, from where many pilgrims originate, are also part of the directives aimed at ensuring a successful pilgrimage.
During the visit, CS Raturi held a meeting with Commissioner Garhwal Vinay Shankar Pandey, District Magistrates of Dehradun and Tehri, Senior Superintendent of Police Tehri, and other officials involved in the Chardham Yatra. The discussions focused on improving current arrangements and planning for future requirements to accommodate the increasing number of devotees.
