State chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has said that by purchasing handloom products you honour the labour done by the poor of the country. He expressed this views while visiting the National Handloom expo held at Parade Ground here on Thursday.
Handloom industry provides employment to about 65 lakh people and is second largest employment generating sector after agriculture in the Country. The CM said that on interaction, the weavers attending the expo informed that they are attending the event from last many years which shows that people here appreciate their products.
He reiterated that the appeal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that every Indian must have one pair of Khadi clothes. It has increased the sale of Khadi. Later CM also released a calendar Himadri and inaugurated theme pavilion too.
The director Industry, Sudhir Nautiyal informed that weavers and artisans from 14 states and 46 handloom committees of U’khand are participating in the event. Rajpur road MLA Khajan Das, Secretary Saujanya , BJP leader Sunil Uniyal Gama and others were present on the occasion.
