Governor Dr KK Paul, along with officials, inspected the Naini Lake from the Boat House Club. He said that the lake was not just a heritage for Nainital but also for Uttarakhand and the entire country.
He said that the existence of Nainital was dependent on the Nainital lake. Last year, in the summers, the level of the lake had fallen and this had been alarming . Awareness for the need to preserve the lake should be enhanced and focus should be on ways and means to maintain its level.
The Governor said that all efforts must be made collectively not to waste water.
While seeing the lake, the Governor directed the officials that slogans, pamphlets and signboards should be used to make people aware of the need to conserve and maintain the lake. Attention should be given to rainwater harvesting. He said that conservation efforts for the lake must be accelerated.
Kumaon Commissioner Chandrashekhar Bhatt told the Governor that rainwater was being harvested on the roofs of houses in Nainital and this was being reached to the lake.
