Auli to be developed as Tourism destination;CM

Auli will be developed as Tourism Destination under the master plan and all efforts will be made to add all necessary arrangements for the purpose of organizing winter sports in Auli in the future.  Speaking about the preparations of the Federation of International Skiing Race to be organized fromJanuary 15-21 in Auli Chief Minister Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat said that underlined that  Uttarakhand has got an opportunity to compete in the international level of  FIS Race, which is a great privilege for our State and hopefully  this competition will be organized successfully.

Chief Minister Shri Trivendra said that Auli is one of the most beautiful places in the world. There is immense potential of tourism. Lots of tourists visit here every year for taking advantage of the splendorous beauty. He said that while focusing on the future, efforts are being made to develop Auli as major tourism destination with a broader perspective. Chief Minister assured that all the resources will be arranged for the successful organization of winter sports competitions here. At the same time, arrangements will be made to hire good trainers to prepare skiers at the local level. He apprised that all the facilities will be provided by the government to all the players, tourists and guests who join the FIS race held in Auli. The Chief Minister Shri Trivendra added that there is no snowfall this year but in the coming time there will definitely be snow and the winter sports will be held in Auli. The Chief Minister said that the preparations for the FIS race have almost been completed. Responding to the queries of the journalists, he said that in the event of no snowfall at the time, the committee of experts will decide the date for the FIS race in Auli.

Taking the meeting of officers associated with the FIS race arrangements, the Chief Minister instructed to complete all the arrangements within the stipulated time frame. He informed that on January 16, the Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari will be reaching Auli, with whom the possibilities of tourism in Auli will discussed . In the meeting, the officials apprised the Chief Minister about the progress of the arrangements for the FIS race and assured to expedite the remaining work of FIS race.

Prior to the meeting, Chief Minister Shri Trivendra also visited the slopes of Auli and inspected skiing slopes for a kilometer walk and inquired about the status of instruments like artificial snow-making snow gun  machines, artificial lake, snow wear, Everest groomer etc. During the inspection of slopes, tourists from the outer states also met the Chief Minister.

Tourism Minister, Shri Satpal Maharaj said that efforts are being made to make world class winter destination to Auli and Gaurso. He said that there will definitely be snowfall in the coming time and the FIS race in Auli will be concluded successfully. The participation of the local people is also very important in organizing FIS race.

It is to be mentioned here that FIS races are being held in India for the first time ever by the efforts of Winter Games Federation of India and Winter Games Association of Uttrakhand. It is a historical moment for the Uttarakahnd state to hold such races for the first time. These races will facilitate Indian skiers and the skiers of the neighboring countries to gain FIS points for competing in various International events. Federation of International Skiing does not allow any skier to take part in International event without FIS points. Holding such events in Auli-the famous Ski destination in India will be of immense help for promotion of Tourism, employment and most important is migration from the area which is a prevailing burning topic with the authorities in Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board has taken up the responsibilities for promotion of these games in Auli slopes. Not only that the Tourism department is also exploring the possiblities of opening up of some more Ski slopes in Uttarakhand Himalayas like Munsiyari, Dayara Bugyal in Uttarkashi and Mundali slopes in Chakrata hills.This sporting event of adventure and thrill is especially being looked after for promotion by the Tourism Department of Uttarakhand.

The International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski races are scheduled to be held at Auli in Uttarakhand from 15 to 21 Jan 2018. Such types of races are being held in India for the first time. FIS races are conducted for athletes to gain points for qualifying for any international Ski competition including winter Olympics. These races are conducted world over for the probable skiers every year. Skiers from countries like France, Italy, Afganishatan, Nepal, Tajikistan and Luxembourg along with 70 skiers from India will participate in the country’s first ever international skiing competition to be held in Auli fromJan 15 to 21st 2018.
