IMD forcast hailstorm for 36 hrs by March 9

Widespread rain/snowfall activities are forecast for both Garhwal and Kumaon regions Uttarakhand for at least four days starting from March 8.  Informing, Uttarakhand Meteorological Centre director Bikram Singh said on Mondaythat the rain and snow of moderate intensity are likely to lash several places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts. Besides, light rain/snowfall might occur in the remaining districts of the state.  “Snowfall is likely to occur at places with height 3000m and above on the four days at a stretch,” he added.   Bedsides, a warning of     hailstorm has been issued for Dehradun, Tehri, Hardwar, Pauri, Nainital, Almora, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts for the next 60 hours starting from March 9.

Following rain/snowfall and hailstorm activities, the maximum temperatures are likely to dip by 4 to 6 degree Celsius below the normal from March 8 onwards till March 12 and by 2 to 3 degree Celsius below the normal till March 17. Correspondingly, the minimum is also likely to dip by 2 to 3 notches as compared to normal from March 11 onwards.

With the inclement weather in the offing, Singh issued advisory for the people and the transporters driving in the hilly regions.  Farmers have also been advised to take precautionary measures and avoid irrigation during the period the climate would be rough.
