Uttarakhand Finance Minister Premchand Aggarwal presented a budget exceeding ₹1 lakh crore in the Vidhan Sabha today. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that this year’s budget prioritizes infrastructure development, employment generation, climate change mitigation, and welfare schemes.
The budget allocates ₹14,763.13 crore for infrastructure development and construction under capital expenditure, the highest ever in the state. A provision of ₹168.33 crore has been made under the Uttarakhand Integrated Infrastructure Development Board (UIIDB) scheme for the development of Haridwar and Rishikesh. Additionally, ₹10 crore has been earmarked for the River Front Development Project (Sharda Corridor).
To boost rural employment, ₹146 crore has been allocated for trout fishery promotion, while ₹20 crore has been set aside for the Startup Venture Fund to encourage entrepreneurship. The Pravasi Uttarakhand Parishad will receive ₹1 crore for initiatives aimed at the welfare of Uttarakhand residents living outside the state.
A significant provision of ₹30 crore has been made for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. The government has also set aside ₹125 crore for the rejuvenation of springs and rivers, ensuring sustainable water management. In an effort to combat climate change, ₹60 crore has been allocated for climate mitigation initiatives.
For the first time, ₹1 crore has been set aside for the welfare of home guards, and ₹5 crore has been allocated for the Silk Federation Revolving Fund to promote the silk industry. The police department will receive ₹10 lakh for encouraging informers in narcotics-related cases.
The budget also prioritizes smart city projects, with ₹6.5 crore allocated for the operation of electric buses. A sum of ₹490 crore has been provisioned for the payment of electricity bills in the Drinking Water and Irrigation Department. Furthermore, ₹20 crore has been allotted for the implementation of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (Indian Justice Code).
With record-high allocations and a focus on sustainable development, the budget aims to propel Uttarakhand towards economic growth and self-reliance while ensuring welfare measures for its citizens.
