Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has inaugurated the kayaking-canoeing competition under the 38th National Games at Tehri Lake, Koti Colony, on Tuesday. The Chief Minister encouraged the players and honored the medalists of the 1000-meter kayaking men’s competition. Uttarakhand’s Prabhat Kumar won the gold medal, while SSCB and Delhi secured silver and bronze, respectively. First Lady Geeta Dhami was also present during the event.

Addressing the gathering, CM Dhami highlighted Uttarakhand’s transformation into a “Khelbhoomi” after being known as “Devbhoomi” and “Veerbhoomi.” He expressed pride in hosting the 38th National Games, which have been conducted across 11 venues in the state since January 28. Remarkably, all sports infrastructure and equipment were locally developed. He noted that Uttarakhand’s ranking has improved from 25th in the 37th National Games to 7th this year.

CM Dhami emphasized Tehri Lake’s potential as a hub for tourism and adventure sports, with plans to host year-round competitions. He underlined how such initiatives would boost tourism, create local employment, and strengthen the regional economy. He also launched the “Destination Tehri Calendar 2025,” focusing on winter tourism, prepared by the Tehri Garhwal District Administration in collaboration with Uttarakhand Tourism and The Times of India.

The event saw participation from 160 players, including 80 women, from 16 states. Officials present included Tehri MLA Kishore Upadhyay, Devprayag MLA Vinod Kandari, and several district leaders. Upadhyay stressed the importance of preserving the Ganga’s purity. CM Dhami concluded by inviting sports enthusiasts and tourists to explore Uttarakhand’s scenic beauty, adventure sports, and spiritual destinations, wishing all participants a bright future.
