Deputy Leader of Opposition Bhuvan Kapri adopted a unique method of protest on Thursday, drawing attention to the plight of Indians being deported from the United States. Kapri arrived at the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha premises wearing handcuffs and shackles on his hands and feet, symbolizing the alleged inhumane treatment of deported Indian immigrants.

Raising the issue in the Assembly, Kapri criticized the Centre for its silence on the matter. He pointed out that the US administration has been forcefully deporting illegal immigrants, including Indians, in a degrading manner. Reports and images of deportees being shackled and flown back in military planes have sparked international outrage, with human rights activists condemning the practice.

The Khatima Congress MLA slammed the Modi government for not taking a strong stand, stating that the Centre’s inaction has put the dignity of Indian citizens at stake. “While other countries are actively protecting their people, our government remains silent,” he remarked.

The issue has gained traction in global media, with growing criticism of the US administration’s approach. Kapri’s dramatic protest in the Assembly added to the calls for diplomatic intervention to ensure the humane treatment of Indian nationals abroad.
