In a heartwarming display of justice, 97-year-old Leela Devi and her 80-year-old daughter Neena Gurung finally regained possession of their ancestral land after a 25-year-long battle against illegal occupation. The Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal, took decisive action and handed over the land in Raipur to its rightful owners.

The elderly mother-daughter duo had spent decades knocking on the doors of government offices and courts, fighting against a gas warehouse that had continued operations on their land even after the lease had expired in 1998. Despite their relentless efforts, their cries for justice remained unheard—until the matter was raised during the DM’s Janta Darshan program.

Moved by their plight, DM Bansal ordered an immediate investigation. On January 3, the administration sealed the illegally operated warehouse. Today, with the help of SDM Kumkum Joshi, the final possession was given back to Leela Devi and her daughter. Holding the keys to her rightful property, tears welled up in Leela Devi’s eyes as she expressed deep gratitude to the administration.

“This is not just land; it’s my husband’s last memory. I had lost hope, but today, justice has been served,” she said, her frail hands trembling with emotion.

The DM has also initiated action to cancel the gas agency’s license and questioned officials for their negligence. The case stands as a beacon of hope for justice, restoring public faith in the administration.
