Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya, who attended the 16th convocation of UPES as chief guest, has categorically asked the graduating students to use the gained knowledge for the benefit of the Society & the Nation. She counselled the students to be always thankful to their parents & Teachers for it is they who have shaped them to what they are today. She also stressed on ‘Discipline in Life’ which she said is always the key to success.  Todays’ day & age Convocation should never be considered as a ‘Milestone’ of culmination of knowledge but should be considered as a ‘stepping stone’ for further knowledge

In his ‘Commencement Address’ Sharad Mehra, Chairman – Hydrocarbons Education & Research Society (HERS – the Promoting Society of the University) while congratulating the graduating students and the Medal Winners also cautioned them that having a degree and having experience are  two different things which they now need to balance. Mr Mehra stated that whatever anyone does for a living, some element of contribution to the country must always be included in it. He made all the graduating students to rise and applaud for their parents & Gurus.

Dr. Deependra Kumar Jha, Vice Chancellor UPES in his report touched upon several aspects which included awards & recognitions, student accomplishments, faculty achievements, academic collaborations, Campus Placements, Human Resource initiatives, infrastructure, research & development, internationality and societal impact.

A total of 3609 students were awarded their respective Degrees at the convocation which included 48 PhD’s; 1372 Post Graduate Degrees which comprised of MBA, M.Tech, MA, LLM, M.Plan & M.Design and 2189 Undergraduate degrees in the domains of B.Tech, BBA, BA, B.Design & various UG programs of Law. 77 MBA Degrees were also conferred on Uttarakhand State Employees under the ‘Open/Distance’ Learning Mode which included 48 In Power management & 29 In Infrastructure Management.

07 ‘Gold Medals’, 66 ‘Silver Medals’, 03 ‘Instituted Medals Gold’ and 14 ‘Shields’ were awarded to the students during the ceremony.

University Gold Medal winners included Jaideep Saraswat, Tanisha Gupta, Yatish Pachauri, Dipti Khatri, Senthil Naadan Arulmozhi Selvan, Sharonn Hareshkumar Narsingani & Anjali Bisht

 ‘Instituted MedalsGold’ went to Santosh Vani S.V., Ommprakash G & Shreshth Kanugo. The ‘achievers’ received their respective medals individually through the hands of the ‘Chief Guest’, ‘Distinguished Guest’ & the ‘Special Guest’. Dr. Veena Dutta, Registrar UPES was the Master of Ceremony at the Convocation.
