Revenue officer nabbed for accepting Rs 5500 bribe in Udham Singh Nagar

A team of the vigilance department arrested a lekhpal from Sitarganj in Udham Singh Nagar district on Tuesday for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe from a local resident.
The accused, identified as Ram Singh, was caught by vigilance sleuths while taking a bribe of Rs 5,500 from complainant Tarsem Singh for making a report on his application of domicile, income and caste certificate.

Singh had filed an online application to get his domicile, income and caste certificate a week ago. The lekhpal posted at Sitarganj tehsil was supposed to file a report on the applications.

“When the complainant met the revenue official regarding his application, he was asked to pay a bribe of Rs 7,000 before certificates would be issued to him. After negotiation, the lekhpal agreed on Rs 5,500,” said a vigilance official. Ram Singh Meena, director, vigilance department, said, “We formed a trap team and arrested the accused from patwari post in Sitarganj tehsil on Tuesday while accepting the bribe.”
