Polling to the Tharali bypoll began here on Monday in which the BJP is hoping to maintain its winning momentum while the Congress is trying to retain the seat. The seat has become prestige issue which is why chief minsiter trivendra Singh rawat himself spent quality time to woo the voters. Although senior leaders had stationed here to keep winning momentum intact. Meanwhile congress had deployed their ex chief minister Harish Rawat and Ex MP Tamta. Till 11 am polling percentage was mere 20 percent.
The Tharali bypoll was necessitated following the demise of BJP MLA Magan Lal Shah in February this year. He died due to Swine flu.
The ruling BJP has fielded Munni Devi Shah while the Congress has given ticket to Ex MLA Prof Jeet Ram. As many as 98000 voters will decide the fate of five candidates who are in the fray. Voters, including women, could be seen standing in queues at various polling booths in the morning for voting.
The Election Commission has deployed a large number of police force to ensure free and fare election.
