Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Power RK Singh has claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of providing power connection to each the households of the country would be completed before the deadline March 31, 2019.
He expressed these views after launching the ‘Saubhagya’ scheme in Uttarakhand at Pavilion Ground in Dehradun on Friday. He said that 3,52,000 houses would be electrified in the state, adding that their focus is trained on electrification of the rural India. Things are improving now as the junior engineers are reaching places where power cut continues for over 20 minutes. Besides, the volume of revenue collection in the power sector is looking up in tune with the increased efficiency level of the department.
The scheme was launched in every district of the state on the same day by the ministers. Under the Scheme, a total of 10,400 houses have been given electricity connection on the day while the number of houses electrified in Dehradun district was 1,235.
Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that electricity no longer means mere electric lights. “It means much more as India is moving fast towards digitization. We must keep pace with the speed of development going on across the world with new tools being used in everyday life. Now life devoid of power is unthinkable and we would bring the economically unprivileged within the ambit of the development through providing them with power connection,” he said.
