Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat along with Ex-CM & Garhwal MP Gen Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri and Army chief Bipin Rawat inaugurated the Garhwal rifle war memorial hostel for boys and girls at Daanda Lakhaund, Dehradun on Sunday.
The hostel with the facility of food, bus service for the students from hostel, audio-video room, library, medical service, tuition facility, coaching facility for professional courses can accommodate 250 students out of which 125 will be girls while 125 will be boys.
CM Rawat addressing the gathering said that the children of servicemen from remote regions of the state will get a better environment for education in the hostel constructed here. If the Army agrees then another such Hostel can be constructed at Haldwani too. State government despite limited budget was ready to aid the family members of the servicemen.
He said that to improve the condition at Sainik School Gorhakhal an amount has been raised form Rs. 3 crores to Rs. 5 crores.
CM said that migration was a serious problem for the state and efforts should be made to stop it’s occurrence here.
All the 670 Nyaya Panchayats in the state were being developed as growth centers. He said that the nutritional food of Uttarakhand in which the local produce namely Koda, Chaulai,Kuttu etc are being used has received acclaim at national level. This food can be sold by increasing the crop produce and marketing it in a better branded way. In Ghes village of Chamoli the farmers have been motivated to grow peas which has yielded good result in providing additional income. Ghes village has through tele-medicine service has been linked with tele medicine and the village has been converted into a digital one. The Chief Minster planted a sapling on the occasion.
Gen Khanduri said that the hostel facility for the families of servicemen was indeed a welcome step and commendable. He hoped that students would excel in academics and sports during their stay at hostel.
Army Chief General Bipin Rawat said that opening of the hostel during the Navratri was a good sign He said that with the construction of the hostel the Jawans with sena medals will not have to go elsewhere for the education of their children. He thanked Uttarakhand government and to Garhwal Rifles for their support in construction of the hostel. He said that the students would be provided such facilities that they are able to earn well in Army and other organizations, later. Mussoorie MLA Ganesh Joshi said that he was ready for the support the servicemen and their families and announced Rs 50 Lakh from his MLA fund, on the occasion.
Lt General Sarat Chand said that for the hostel 4.18 acre land and Rs 2.50 crore were received from Uttarakhand government. Several other organizations also contributed for the hostel
