Bageshwar’s boxer reaches final of National Youth Boxing championship

Hema Danu of Bageshwar in the 2nd Youth Men and Women’s Boxing Championships is now ready to put her punch on a golden win. Pawan Gurung of Dehradun has also been successful in making the final place. Five medals of Uttrakhand have been confirmed in the competition.

In the ongoing national competition in Rohtak, the semi-finals were played on Thursday. In the women category, Hema Danu of Bageshwar faced Manjeet of Karnataka in the 57 kilograms category. In the third round, Hema Danu won the match by 5-0 margin and made it to the final. Meanwhile, Pawan Gurung of Maharana Pratap Sports College, Dehradun, in 56 kg category of men, was competing with Rohit from Maharashtra. Thanks to his brilliant game, Pawan entered the finals with a 5-0 win in three rounds. In the 91 kg weight category, Kapil Pokhariya of Kashipur had to face defeat in the semi-finals. Neha Kasnial of Pithoragarh was defeated in the 69kg category by Lalita of Rajasthan while Kavita Adhikari lost to Punjab’s Harmanpreet Kaur in the 64 kg women category.

Coach Lalit Kunwar said that the five players performed excellently. Pawan Gurung has achieved success in winning this match with his experience and speed. While Hema Danu was very aggressive inside the ring. Now both of them can expect gold on Friday.
