Vasantotsav concludes with prize distribution

Vasantotsav, which has become the most popular and waited annual  event over the past few years, concluded  successfully this evening at Raj Bhawan.

The Governor, at the concluding ceremony of the festival, gave away prizes to —winners (first, second and third prizes) of various competitions organized as part of the spring festival. (The list of winners is attached herewith) .These competitions include cut-flower ,floral rangoli, school children painting competition, on the spot photography, potted plants and loose flowers arrangement categories. The overall running trophy was bagged by Uttarakhand Forest department.

After the program, in interaction with media,  the Governor said that  Uttarakhand can  emerge as a Floriculture state (Pushp Bhumi) as the climate and environment here was conducive to growing all kinds of flowers. Commercial cultivation of flowers will boost the economy and provide employment in remote areas .

 The Governor said that this two-day event of colour and fragrance would surely have  created new energy, freshness and enthusiasm in the hearts of all visitors. He said this was not just a flower exhibition but  was a unique convergence of  floriculturists, flower lovers, nature lovers, music , folk art and painting .

 The Governor said that the painting competition where students of schools as well as physically challenged children showed their power of imagination and creativity was a pleasure to witness. At the initiative and direction of the governor, several new dimensions were added this year to the festival. The festival was kept polythene –free.

The Governor congratulated all the winners, participants, the horticulture department(which organizes this event), the culture department and all supporting departments for making the festival a success.

Earlier in the day, the governor visited all the stalls and displays at the festivals. He saw the painting and photography exhibitions and interacted with the personnel at the various stalls of organizations and institutions. He spoke to many people at the event.

Present at the closing ceremony were, Lady Governor Smt. Omita Paul, Speaker Shri Prem Chandra Agrawal, Minister Shri Subodh Uniyal, Secretary Shri R.Meenakshi Sundaram, Shri Ravinath Raman, all senior officers of horticulture department , officials and Raj Bhawan, several eminent persons and a large number of visitors .Cultural programs by artists of the culture department  were presented  last evening as well as this evening at the Raj Bhawan campus after the prize distribution
