Taking cognizance on a ragging complaint, which was lodged by two students of Uttarakhand Sanskrit University, the anti-ragging committee of UGC has referred the matter to the police. Police has issued notice to the university administration and asked them to submit your reply within 24 hours.
The two students had demanded security, alleging they had been beaten and humiliated during ragging by another senior student. Two students hailing from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh had alleged that a senior student in Yoga department for diploma course abused and beat them and even threatened to kill them. It was a common incident there.
They had evidences in the form of CCTV footages, which show an administrative officer being beaten along with them. The further mentioned that they are living under threat, unable to concentrate onf studies. They sought security in the apprehension of a repeat of what they had witnessed earlier.
They had further alleged that the university administrator had not taken any action against the accused, his refusal prompting them to write to the anti-ragging committee. Although the university administrator Prof LN Joshi said that following on the complaint, he called both the students and pacified them. Later they lodged complaint to the UGC cell while he was on leave.
The investigating officer CO Kankhal Manoj Katyal said that both the complainants and the accused were summoned and their statements were recorded. The administrator and other officials are also being interrogated in the matter. We have also asked the administrator to explain why he did not take action in 24 hours since the complaint was lodged as per the rule.
