Police vehicle driver does not carry commercial license;RTI

Police department’s drivers especially the City Patrol Unit (CPU) squads do not have commercial driving licenses. This has been revealed under Right to Information (RTI).

The Dehradun City Bus Association president Vijay Vardhan Dandariyal said that in response to the RTI query regarding CPU driver and pillion, the police department informed that the personnel ridding pillion on the CPU motorcycle carried non-commercial license and provided the copy but it remained silent on the personnel driving these vehicles.

He claimed that since the personnel driving the CPU motorcycle are drawing salary from the government exchequer he should have commercial license as per the law.

He said that the guidelines of the driver service rules 2003 clearly mention that the drivers of government vehicles should carry commercial driving licenses. Dandariyal said that the transport department registers the motorcycles of those providing them on rent under commercial category.
