DAINIK NATION BUREAU

Uttarakhand Governor Dr KK Paul today gave away prizes to winners of the inter-university sports meet organized at Doon University from October 26 to 29.

Congratulating the winners Dr Paul said that winning was important in sports but equally important was participating fully with a sportsman spirit. Certificates should be given to all the participants. A souvenir should also be brought out which should include the photographs of winners.

The first ever inter-university sports meet in the state was a historic beginning. There were many talented sport spersons in Uttarakhand and such events would give them opportunities to show their talent.

The sports helped in learning to work as a team and facing difficulties. Universities should have regular sports activity like academic activity. Few events could be held this time as part of the inter-university meet as there was less time for preparation. Next time, he said, athletics would be also part of the event.

Sports minister Arvind Pandey said that sportspersons should learn from their mistakes and improve themselves for the next time. He said that hard work had no alternative and was the only way to success.

Doon University’s VC Prof Kusum Arunanchalam said that Eleven universities participated in the four-day inter-university sports meet organized by Doon University on the direction of the Governor. Table tennis, Badminton, Basketball, volleyball and football contests were part of the event.
