Man from Punjab cons 200 doonites of Rs 16 lakh

The Dehradun police on Sunday arrested a Punjab resident for duping around 200 city residents of around Rs 16 lakh by offering them fixed monthly profit under a fake vehicle advertisement scheme.

The accused, Rajveer Singh alias Manpreet Singh, hails from Budhlada in Mansa district of Punjab. He was absconding since last one year and was arrested from the ISBT early on Sunday.

Police said that Rajveer had started an advertisement company ‘Dream on Way’ in July 2016 with an office at Indra Nagar in Vasant Vihar area of Dehradun. The company promised each vehicle owner Rs 2,500 per month for displaying advertisements on their vehicles.

The scam came to light when Rakhi Verma, a resident of Shastri Nagar in Indra Nagar filed a complaint with the Vasant Vihar police on August 23, 2016, alleging that she was duped by Rajveer Singh.

Investigation revealed that within one month, the company duped around 200 city residents of approximately Rs 16 lakh. “We got a tip off that Rajveer will be in Dehradun for some work and arrested him on Sunday,” police said.

He has been booked under Section 467 (forging a document), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using a forged document as genuine) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC.
