AAP MP Sanjay Singh gets bail from Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) chose not to oppose his bail plea in connection with a money laundering case. The decision comes after Singh’s wife, Anita Singh, expressed gratitude and stated that the struggle would continue until their other party members, including Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendar Jain, are also released.

Anita Singh, wife of AAP MP Sanjay Singh, expressed gratitude towards the Supreme Court for granting bail to her husband. However, she mentioned that their struggle is ongoing and will persist until their three party colleagues, Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendar Jain, are also released. Anita Singh further said, “We are not celebrating yet. We thank the court…He (Sanjay Singh) will come tomorrow.”

The bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and B V Nagarathna granted bail to Singh on a personal bond of ₹1 lakh and two sureties of the same amount. The court directed him not to leave the country without its permission and to surrender his passport.

Singh was arrested by the ED on March 11 in a case related to alleged money laundering during the Punjab Assembly elections in 2017. The ED had alleged that Singh was involved in a conspiracy with others to siphon off public funds through a hawala racket.

The AAP leader’s bail plea was opposed by the ED, which argued that releasing him would hamper the investigation. However, the ED later informed the court that it was not opposing Singh’s bail.

After the court’s decision, Anita Singh expressed relief and stated that they were thankful for the court’s decision. She added that their fight for justice would continue until their other party members are also released from custody.

Singh’s arrest had sparked political controversy, with the AAP alleging that it was a move by the central government to target opposition leaders ahead of elections. The AAP has been vocal about what it calls “political vendetta” by the central government against its leaders.

With the Supreme Court’s decision, Singh is expected to be released from custody soon, rejoining his party colleagues as they continue their political activities in the upcoming elections.
