Sports Mahakumbh will be held in the first week of next month in which more than two lakh players will participate in 16 sports competitions. On Friday, Sports and Youth Welfare Secretary Brijesh Kumar Sant took a meeting of the state level organizing committee and gave necessary instructions to the officials regarding its preparation.
Taking a meeting of the State Level Organizing Committee at the Secretariat, the Sports Secretary said that Kabaddi, Athletics, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Badminton, Football, Table-tennis, Taekwondo, Boxing, Judo, Handball, Basketball, Hockey, Swimming competitions will be held in the Sports Mahakumbh alongwith Archery and fencing competition.
The event will include swimming, archery and fencing for the first time. Which will be organized in the state level sports Mahakumbh under-14 and under-17 boys and girls category. Athletics, shot throw, flywheel throw, javelin throw, long jump and badminton competition will be organized for PwD athletes directly at the state level.
The Sports Secretary informed that sports competitions will be held at Nyaya Panchayat level, Block level, District level and then at the state level. The age group prescribed for the Games will be in Under 12, Under 14, Under 17, Under 21 Boys, Girls category. At the same time, women and disabled persons have been kept in the age group of 21 and 25.
The Sports Secretary informed that in sports, development, district and state level sportspersons who get first, second and third positions in each sport will be awarded. At the same time, in the team championship, all winners and runnerups will be given shield and trophy.
The Sports Secretary informed that for the first time under-12 age group has been placed in Mahakumbh, so that the winners of this category can be given priority while entering the sports colleges of the state.
In the meeting, the Sports Secretary informed that the National Games are to be organized in Uttarakhand in the year 2021, for which talented sportspersons will also be selected during Khel Mahakumbh.
