UK cabinet approves renaming Jollygrant airport

The Uttarakhand cabinet has given its consent to rename Dehradun’s Jollygrant airport after the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In order to change the name of the airport by passing resolution in the coming assembly, it will be sent to the Airports Authority of India, Civil Aviation Authority, Government of India. Dehradun Jollygrant Airport will now be known as Atal Bihari Vajpayee airport.
In the eighties, industrialist Birla prepared a runway at Jollygrant. This runway played an important role in connecting Dehradun with Air Services. After the formation of the state, there was rapid growth of air services. Regular domestic flights started from here by developing the airport. The number of air passengers increased and the airport was expanded.

Given the demand of air services from Dehradun, now work on developing it as an international airport has started. At the same time, the state cabinet has agreed to name Jollygrant Airport after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Saturday.
