Himachal facing flood like situation due to incessant rains

Due to heavy rains due in many areas of Himachal Pradesh, one male and a girl were killed in Kangra and Kullu respectively due to the water from incessant rainfall. Officials have issued ‘High Alert’ for Kullu district. The district administration said that after the torrential rains, water level in the rivers increased in Kangra district, due to the flowing of a person in Nhad Khad (small river), the possibility of his death is being reported.

On the other hand, the Punjab government issued ‘Red Alert’ on Monday in wake of heavy rains in the state and appealed to the district administration to maintain vigilance. A spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has also convened a meeting on Monday to review the situation to deal with flood situation. He said, “Red alert has been issued in view of torrential rains in the state. . Himachal State Forest Minister Govind Singh Thakur said in another incident, a 14-year-old girl was washed away in Bajora due to which she died. The minister visited several affected areas of Kullu district and expressed condolences to the family of the deceased. He said that due to the sudden flood in Beas, many houses were also washed away. Beas river is flowing at a dangerous level. He said that people should not go to the rivers or streams to collect logs etc.

Officials said that people living in low-lying areas are being taken to safer places including Kangra, Chamba, Kullu and Mandi districts. They are also being asked to be alert, because the water level is rising in the rivers and streams.
