Student must read book other than text book

Governor Dr KK Paul said that students should be taught well about the country’s history and its cultural values at school level. They should know about the social life, art, culture and philosophy of India.

Dr Paul was talking to the students of the Doon School who made a courtesy call on him at Raj Bhawan. Reading books other than text books was very important to broaden one’s horizons of knowledge. The information from the internet was not a source of wisdom. He stressed the need for reading good books .

Students can organize programmes related to cleanliness, respecting women and awareness regarding road accidents .Students asked questions and the governor resolved their queries.

He said that violence against women was shameful and a change of mentality needs to be brought in besides the laws. Boys should be taught to respect girls and women right from childhood. If they are taught to respect their mothers and sisters , they will learn to respect all girls and women.

He also stressed the need for learning road safety and being aware about cleanliness. He asked the students about Kedarnath and Badrinath shrines. He also asked them what books they were reading these days.
